Medlow Bath
If you were asked to name a famous building within the Blue Mountains, your answer would most likely be the ‘Hydro Majestic Hotel’. This famous hotel was opened by Mark Foy as a hydropathic spa in 1904. Known as a luxurious resort hotel, with fine cuisine and a mecca for Blue Mountains tourists for many years, the hotel is currently closed and undergoing extensive renovations.
The hotel is a combination of three grand properties. The first being a property developed by Edward Hargraves who received a grant from the government following his discovery of gold to the west of the Blue Mountains in 1851. The second was Belgravia Hotel which was built in 1891 next door to the ‘Hargraves House’ and the third was ‘Tuckers House’.
Views into Megalong ValleyBehind the Hydro you will find some walking tracks including Blackheath Glen Nature Trail. You can also walk to Tuckers Lookout overlooking the Megalong Valley.
Also located in Medlow Bath and privately owned is one of the best preserved Gatekeepers cottage in the Blue Mountains.
Situated on the north side of the railway line is The Old Post Office at Medlow Bath. Now an antique shop and book store, the Old Post Office is a great place to stop for coffee or a light meal.
The Katoomba Airfield is actually located at Medlow Bath down Rutland/Grand Canyon Road. The Airfield offers pilot training within the Blue Mountains.
Also down Rutland Road you will find some fabulous walking tracks which take you to Point Pilcher which offers views of Govetts Gorge.
The town is also served by Medlow Bath railway station as part of the Blue Mountains railway line situated directly opposite the hotel.
