| The small town of Clarence is located
along Bell's Line of Road between Bell and Lithgow. Clarence rates a special
mention as it is the home town of the famous Zig Zag Railway. The Zig
Zag Railway was constructed in the late 1800s and took around three years
to complete. Today the Zig Zag Railway is a must see for any visitor to the Blue
Mountains as you take a ride on a railway journey through history. The
technology of this famous railway was a remarkable engineering breakthrough of
the 19th century, overcoming the steep descent of the Blue Mountains via a system
of railway cuttings, tunnels and viaducts. The Zig Zag Railway, Steam trains
operate every weekend, public holiday, Wednesday and during the week in the NSW
public school holidays. Vintage rail motors run at all other times. Departures
are at 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm. Vintage Railmotors operate mid week except
Wednesdays, NSW School Holidays and Public Holidays. Departures from Clarence:
11.00am, 1.00pm, and 3.00pm On the rail motor trips the train stops
at two scenic lookouts and passengers are taken on a guided tour of the workshops.

Children under 5 years old (not at school) are carried free, but must have ticket for insurance purposes.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
