Come And Find Us

Whether you're looking for a quiet weekend in the country or an active weekend of fishing, rockclimbing and bushwalking, come and find us at the Tarana Hotel and we'll provide you with a well earned rest from your usual routine.

The Tarana Hotel is in the beautiful Tarana Valley just over the Great Dividing Range, two hours drive from Sydney or less then 30 Minutes from Bathust or Lithgow.

Enjoy a beer or two by the open fire in this historic hotel which features the original pressed metal ceiling and an open fireplace made from local granite. Outside the hotel are granite blocks similar to the type of granite used in construction of The Sydney Opera House.

Enjoy a meal in our "Shearing Shed" Restaurant and Experience the ambience of the unique decor.

The hotel dates from the 1880s with walls crammed with mementoes of times past Including photos of the famous locally born pacer Hondo Gratten. And of course who knows what colourful characters you might meet at the hotel bar.

If you would like to stay more then a day, the hotel offers three fully self contained cabins sleeping five. All cabins have their own cooking facilities, although a BBQ area and light meals from the hotel are also available. If you catch the fish we'll show you how to cook them!

The village also has as interesting history which includes tales of bushrangers such as Henry Stratton and Richard Norris, who held up nearby Mutton Falls General Store in 1864.

And of course there is also the infamous "Tarana Tiger" which many have reportedly seen, but no one has proved to be fact or fiction. Within hiking distance of the hotel there is trout fishing, bushwalking and rockclimbing at nearby Evans Crown, which was discovered by explorer George Evans and is widely used by rockclimbers.

There are plenty of local swimming holes and visits to local shearing sheds can be arranged in season.

The Tarana Hotel is also the perfect base to visit several attractions all within one hour by car.

Nearby you'll find Jenolan Caves, goldfields for fossicking, gem fields at Black Springs, artists and potters at Sunny Corner, old cemeteries to explore, horseriding, the historic towns of Bathurst and Sofala, the winemaking districts of Mudgee, joyflights, gliding, sailing, trout farms and national parks - the choice is yours
