Whether you're looking for a quiet weekend in the
country or an active weekend of fishing, rockclimbing and bushwalking, come and find us at
the Tarana Hotel and we'll provide you with a well earned rest from your usual routine.
The Tarana Hotel is in the beautiful Tarana Valley
just over the Great Dividing Range, two hours drive from Sydney or less then 30 Minutes
from Bathust or Lithgow.
Enjoy a beer or two by the open fire in this historic
hotel which features the original pressed metal ceiling and an open fireplace made from
local granite. Outside the hotel are granite blocks similar to the type of granite used in
construction of The Sydney Opera House.
Enjoy a meal in our "Shearing Shed"
Restaurant and Experience the ambience of the unique decor.
The hotel dates from the 1880s with walls crammed
with mementoes of times past Including photos of the famous locally born pacer Hondo
Gratten. And of course who knows what colourful characters you might meet at the hotel
bar.
If you would like to stay more then a day, the hotel
offers three fully self contained cabins sleeping five. All cabins have their own cooking
facilities, although a BBQ area and light meals from the hotel are also available. If you
catch the fish we'll show you how to cook them!

The village also has as interesting
history which includes tales of bushrangers such as Henry Stratton and Richard Norris, who
held up nearby Mutton Falls General Store in 1864.
And of course there is also the infamous "Tarana
Tiger" which many have reportedly seen, but no one has proved to be fact or fiction.
Within hiking distance of the hotel there is trout fishing, bushwalking and rockclimbing
at nearby Evans Crown, which was discovered by explorer George Evans and is widely used by
rockclimbers.
There are plenty of local swimming holes and visits
to local shearing sheds can be arranged in season.
The Tarana Hotel is also the perfect base to visit
several attractions all within one hour by car.
Nearby you'll find Jenolan Caves, goldfields for
fossicking, gem fields at Black Springs, artists and potters at Sunny Corner, old
cemeteries to explore, horseriding, the historic towns of Bathurst and Sofala, the
winemaking districts of Mudgee, joyflights, gliding, sailing, trout farms and national
parks - the choice is yours
