training
Training is offered to all volunteer members of the Blue Mountains SES. It varies depending on the area of specialisation that the member works in but the main themes include a combination of theory based initiatives, practical implementation of the theory and exercises. Training activities include classroom work, field based practical and simulated exercises.
As a registered training organisation, the SES offers a broad range of competency based training for core skill areas. All members are able to complete formally recognised courses of instruction in SES induction, first aid and communications.
Other courses available to members depending on their areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- storm damage operations
- disaster rescue
- mapping skills
- chainsaw operations
- floodboat operations
- search operations
- operations management
A range of external course through the state’s emergency management arrangements are also offered.
The Unit prepares training programs generally 6 months in advance and provides them to all members. Training is conducted to the following general guide:
Rescue Weekly between 1930 and 2130hrs on a Tuesday at Glenbrook or Wednesday at Katoomba. Some weekend activities are also run from time to time.
Operations Monthly on the 1 st Sunday of each month at Katoomba
Communications Monthly on the 2 nd Wednesday of the month at Katoomba
Specific courses Run as required on weekends with dates to be advised.
