| Developed in the 1880's
by Mr John Pope, the property was originally known as "Karraweera", a name that
many still remember as that of a popular hotel which operated in the 1950's and 1960's.
Run by a Hungarian family, the "Karraweera" became a mecca for members of
Sydney's Hungarian community, who enjoyed the Blue Mountains' climate and the European
landscape and atmosphere of the old hotel. |
Around 1970 the name was changed to
"Parklands". The condition of the hotel began to deteriorate and it was
partially destroyed by fire and demolished in the mid 1980's. |

|
In
developing Parklands, the new owners, Elizabeth and Colin Jacobson, instructed their
architect to create the finest accommodation in the Mountains, making the most of the
natural beauty of this magnificent property. Parklands Country Garden & Lodges opened
in 1996 with 8 units. Due to demand, a further four executive units were added in 1998 and
today Parklands is rightly proclaimed as one of the Blue Mountains' most exclusive and
private retreats. |

|
| The property has a rich
natural heritage. Still flowing today is a natural spring which newspaper reports as early
as 1890 claimed as "the best drinking water for miles around". This spring now
runs into a recently developed lake, which has created a home for a variety of wild
waterfowl and a peaceful sylvan setting of willows, swamp cypresses, tree fems, Mexican
pines and pistachio trees.
A prominent feature of the grounds is the former 9 hole
golf course which was first established in 1904. Magnificent trees line the old fairways
which provide easy and enchanting walks through the grounds. |
