Mutton Falls

History

Mutton Falls historic house and garden, has a long association with romance and memorable occasions, built by local pioneering woman Ann Webb in 1840 as a family homestead. In 1855 Ann Webb opened a retail store, the Falls Store, which was situated between the house and the main road, to supply the area from Bathurst to Bowenfels with provisions from Sydney. During the years between 1862 and 1867 Ann Webb several times found herself repelling attempts of armed robbery by dangerous bushrangers. Luckily she was successful and notorious Lawrence Cummins received a bullet to the neck and twelve years in jail for his trouble. In 1987 Dennis Danna commenced research and restoration of Mutton Falls

The Guest House and Restaurant

Four charming Georgian bedrooms now provide accommodation for eight, often booked out by one group of friends.

The original charm and hospitality is evident in the delicious contemporary meals cooked on the 100 year old wood-burning stove and experienced dinner party style in the large dining room. The atmosphere in the comfortable guest sitting room, enhanced by a huge open fireplace is perfect for relaxing.

Mutton Falls is surrounded by old fashioned gardens beside the Fish River, lined with magnificent poplar trees, in a typical Australian rural setting. While a walk is a good idea after consuming the hearty fare, the favourite guest activity is watching the river go by.

The Intimate Wedding Ceremony and Reception.

Today Mutton Falls offers the perfect setting for a truly special wedding ceremony and reception. There are many beautiful locations within the gardens for an open-air ceremony and a choice of colonial dining room, or "The Dairy" for an unforgettable reception.
